Qemu is the word!

Under normal conditions, very few people are willing (not to mention capable of) running ANYTHING else than MicrosoftTM WindowsTM. Under certain circumstances though, if your company demands a lower cost on the IT dept. someone (might be you) certainly have to look for alternatives.

There's an article on Slashdot concerning a rather peculiar alternative on running alternative OS'es to a PC. You can even try your luck using a (virtual) Apple MacintoshTM and check yourself if the budget Mini Mac can handle the load of your company for less the money.

QemuPPC is the port for emulating a PowerPC based machine on your computer while Qemu has a port for running a PC into your PC without paying a dime!!

Isn't Emulation marvelous?!

MAME 0.92u2000!

If you're wondering where the other 1999 0.92u's are, here's your answer: "Nicola submitted an SPI update a couple of hours ago which fully decrypts the graphics in Raiden Fighters 2: 2000."
Yes. Encryption BROKEN and Nicola did it again!

Cutting n' pasting from 'what's new' file:

0.92u2000
---------

Given the circumstances this seems a worthwhile update ;-).

----

Improvements to Seibu SPI decryption [Nicola Salmoria]
Tile graphics are decrypted for all Games
Sprites decrypted for Raiden Fighters 2000

Discrete Sound in Tank8 [Hans Andersson]

so there are still dubious places)
- converted to tilemaps, fixed scrolling
- simplified tile decoding
- flip screen support
- fixed spriteram size (this fixes gladiatr36rc2gre)
- support for sprite dual buffer (this fixes sprite trails)
- adjusted YM2203 mixing levels so bass notes can still be heard (the
audio mixing stage has some program controlled filters though which
aren't supported)
- merged with ppking, drivers/ppking.c is no longer needed
- proper blending of the fg layer (it's a palette effect not alpha
blending)

Improved video emulation in XFiles [Tomasz Slanina]
